Chicago Apple Slices

As simple as apple pie but takes even less time to make since the crust is just store bought phylo dough sheets!

From Scratch filling:

6 medium apples (I prefer granny smith)

1/3 cup of brown sugar

2 tbsp of cornstarch

Cinnamon to taste

Vanilla extract to taste

Lemon juice to taste

Place in an oven safe dish and bake until your apples are tender

  • Layer your filling over in between sheets of the phylo dough

  • Bake at 350 for until your phylo is nice and flakey golden brown

  • Lastly apply your glaze (while still warm is fine)

Homemade glaze is made using powdered sugar and melted butter aka “classic butter cream” icing but slightly less thick since we are melting the butter first. This makes more of a crackly glaze that is reminiscent of donut icing.
