Using Index Cards to Grocery Shop

I got this idea from a friend quite a few years ago. She could never get her husband to answer what he wanted from the grocery store when she was making her weekly trips.

She devised a system by taking the recipes in her repertoire and and labeling one side of the index card with the name of the dish. Then on the other side of the card she would list out all ingredients needed to make the recipe.

Rather than ask an uninterested audience “what should we have for dinners this week?” she was now able to hand over a small stack of cards and let the family chose what appealed to them. The verdict was that this made everyone a lot happier and more engaged around the topic.

As an added bonus now all she had to do is take the cards with her to the store and she has a grocery list as well.
