Smoothie Bowls

You’ll find that the internet is laden with recipes for the ever popular smoothie bowl. Having a real affinity for foods with red hues, I always make mine with some sort of red berries and pomegranate gems.

Red is the color of passion and it’s wonderful to be passionate about the food you’re eating.

  • One cup of Skyr Icelandic style yogurt

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • A handful (use your judgement of how chocolatey you like it!) of chopped dark chocolate

  • 7 ripe fresh strawberries (remove the leaves)

  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder or PREFERABLY cacao powder (you can find this at your local health food store)

  • 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds (I like to use the Starbucks VIA instant packets)

  • The seeds of one whole pomegranate

  • Homemade or store bought granola of your choice

  • Optional: Coconut flakes

Combine all ingredients in a blender EXCEPT for your granola and pomegranate seeds which will be used as a garnish. Blend until smooth and top with your ruby red pomegranate gems and toasted granola. Eat with a spoon and enjoy!

Pomegranate Gems

These shiny red "jewels" called arils house a lightly sweet nectar that surrounds a seed in the middle.

In many ancient cultures the pomegranate has a symbolic meaning of fertility and abundance.
